Año de la Cabra

With the Flor de Selva Año de la Cabra – Year of the Goat, Maya Selva continues her tradition of limited editions dedicated to the Chinese New Year. This edition celebrates the Year of the Goat – a zodiac sign associated in Chinese culture with good fortune, prosperity, and the promise of an auspicious year.

Since 2018, Maya Selva has interpreted the changing signs of the Chinese zodiac through specially created limited editions. The Año de la Cabra continues this tradition with a blend composed entirely of Honduran tobaccos.

Four Harvest Years, Three Terroirs

For the Año de la Cabra, tobaccos from different harvests between 2020 and 2024 are brought together:

»The wrapper from Finca San Carlos gives the cigar structure and finesse, while the combination of filler tobaccos from Jamastrán, Azacualpa, and Santa Bárbara creates a complex profile with depth, evolving aromas, and a consistently smooth draw«, explains Maya Selva.

The Año de la Cabra therefore remains firmly rooted in its origins: wrapper, binder, and filler all come from Honduras.

Good Things Take Time

Time is one of the essential ingredients of this blend. The tobaccos undergo at least one year of fermentation, followed by an additional one to three years of aging, depending on the individual leaf. Even after rolling, the process is not yet complete. The finished cigars spend at least another six months in the factory's aging room, allowing the blend to further develop and mature. The interplay of different harvest years, terroirs, and aging periods provides the foundation for the blend's complexity.

A Creamy Start, Spicy Depth

The Año de la Cabra opens with a creamy texture and subtle spice. As the cigar develops, notes of cedar, earth, and leather emerge, accompanied by hazelnut and spicy nuances. With a strength of 3.5 out of 5, the cigar sits in the medium-to-full range. Despite its aromatic intensity, it remains well balanced, combining depth and expression with the elegance characteristic of Flor de Selva. The generous Gordo format, measuring 152 mm in length with a ring gauge of 56, gives the blend plenty of room to develop throughout the smoke.

A Tribute Down to the Smallest Detail

The design also tells the story of the Año de la Cabra. Red and gold dominate the cigar band and box, reflecting the traditional colors of Chinese New Year celebrations. A particularly distinctive detail can be found at the foot of the cigar: a contrasting piece of wrapper leaf playfully evokes the hoof of a goat, creating a visual connection to the zodiac sign celebrated by this edition. Even when it comes to the packaging, Maya Selva remains true to her philosophy. The box is made entirely in Honduras – because for her, the commitment to Honduran craftsmanship does not end with the cigar itself.

The Año de la Cabra is strictly limited, making it not only a distinctive interpretation of the Year of the Goat, but also a collectible within the Flor de Selva series of special editions.
