The Padrón family has earned a reputation for producing some of the finest cigars in the world. This legacy began with José O. Padrón, a Cuban immigrant who arrived in Miami in 1962 with only a few hundred dollars, a strong work ethic, and a burning desire to craft cigars. Just two years later, in 1964, he founded Padrón Cigars.
With more than half a century of experience, the Padrón family understands the importance of time in creating the perfect cigar. Padrón Cigars represents the very best in handcrafted Nicaraguan cigars, distinguished by the unmistakable flavor of their homeland and the signature recipe passed down through generations.
The company’s mission has never been about producing in volume, but about preserving the exceptional quality of every cigar. This dedication is far more than a marketing promise—it is a tradition proven by the countless awards and recognitions from the world’s most respected cigar publications.
In 1962, Orlando Padrón arrived in Miami from Cuba — a foreign city in an unfamiliar country. He had to start from scratch, receiving just 60 dollars in government aid. Yet every time he cashed the check, he felt like a burden to the country that had welcomed him.
Despite an intense search, he couldn’t find work until his friend Raúl Fernández, an employee at the refugee office, stepped in to help. Raúl gave him a small hammer and told him to put it to good use. For Orlando, this simple tool became a symbol of hope. During the day, he worked as a gardener; at night, he used the hammer to make furniture.
His dream was to return to cigar making — just as he had done back home. With discipline and determination, he saved 600 dollars, all earned with that little hammer. In 1964, he used his savings to found Padrón Cigars.
For the Padrón family, el martillito — the little hammer — came to symbolize hard work, perseverance, and loyalty to one’s values. Orlando often shared the story with his children, and they passed it on to theirs.
To this day, the hammer remains a reminder of those humble beginnings — and of how courage and dedication built a legend.
