A Gem for Special Moments
The Rocky Patel Sapphire lives up to its name. Its extraordinary box, reminiscent of a finely cut gemstone, immediately reflects the ambition Rocky Patel had for this cigar. But behind its luxurious appearance lies far more than exceptional design: a blend that took around 18 months to develop.
127 Blends. 18 Months. One Idea.
Before Rocky Patel was satisfied with the Sapphire, 127 different blends were smoked, adjusted, discarded and refined again and again. At the heart of the process was the search for the perfect balance between flavor, strength and natural sweetness. The inspiration came from a flavor profile Rocky associates with well-aged, classic cigars: a distinctive sweetness that lingers on the palate while retaining plenty of depth and complexity. Achieving this combination proved particularly challenging. The Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos used in the blend naturally bring plenty of character and strength. To develop the desired level of elegance, one factor played a crucial role above all others: time.
Aged to Perfection
For the Sapphire, Rocky Patel reached deep into his tobacco reserves. Some of the filler tobaccos come from harvests dating back as far as 2014. Years of aging, fermentation and careful storage allowed these powerful tobaccos to mature, develop and gain refinement. The blend is wrapped in an aged Mexican San Andrés wrapper, complemented by tobaccos from Honduras and Nicaragua. The Sapphire is handcrafted at Rocky Patel's Tavicusa factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The result is a medium to full-bodied blend in which intensity and elegance go hand in hand.
A Sweetness That Lingers
From the very first draw, the Sapphire is smooth, balanced and immediately expressive. Coffee and espresso form the aromatic foundation, joined by caramel, sweet spices and subtle hints of chocolate. Rather than competing for attention, the individual flavors blend seamlessly into one another. Particularly distinctive is the pronounced natural sweetness that accompanies the cigar throughout much of the smoke, bringing an elegant balance to the richer tobaccos. From the first draw to the last, the Sapphire remains harmonious and complex, without any harsh transitions. A multifaceted smoke with depth, balance and a long, pleasantly sweet finish.
When Packaging Makes a Statement
Rocky Patel left little to chance when it came to the Sapphire's appearance. Around a year of development went into the packaging design alone. The extraordinary 20-count box resembles a jewelry case more than a traditional cigar box, while the striking cigar band consistently carries through the gemstone theme. Alongside the Gold Label and Emerald, the Sapphire forms part of a series in which Rocky Patel pays particular attention not only to the blend itself, but also to its presentation. The Sapphire is available in three formats: Robusto, Toro and Corona Gorda.
